Having joined the Cardiac Group around 1995 with Morag at the helm I accompanied a friend who had suffered a Cardiac incident. Sadly my dear friend is no longer with us but will never be forgotten, and the fact that I and several others are still joining in the class is a testament to the success, dedication, diversity and commitment of the physios and the group in general. A happy friendly group. Many thanks to all of you. – Patricia
I joined this class following two very close heart attacks. One of the things you experience after such a thing, which recent victims may be realising, is the uncertainty of what you are capable of doing moving forward.
In my experience, this class helps you not only to rebuild your physical fitness but also your confidence under the expert guidance of a dedicated team of professional instructors. You become part of a group, or even a family, of like-minded people with a similar purpose.
There’s also a social aspect to this group which includes regular guided walks and social nights which will be resuming now that we’re through covid. I’m now in my 24th year of membership and looking back I would say it’s been one of the better decisions in my life. – Joe
If you’ve had a heart attack or cardiac event, I can certainly recommend joining Glasgow West Heartbeats’ exercise class. The class is run and overseen by a dedicated team of first-class physios who will help you get fit and healthy and keep you safe on screen. I have definitely benefitted from these classes. Come along and have a go, I’m sure you would enjoy it. – Isobel
I joined the cardio class over 10 years ago, encouraged by my husband, who had undergone cardiac surgery and valued the confidence boost given by the physio team.
While I have no history of cardiac problems, I am at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Exercising has therefore become more important, so I now participate in the Kessington face-to-face classes as well as the Heartbeats Zoom sessions. I particularly appreciate the focus on strength and balance, which has been introduced recently to complement the aerobic exercises. The dedication and support of the physio team is invaluable.
It’s not just about the exercise – the informal walking group provides a sociable opportunity for us to meet up, and the coffee is as important as the walk!
Glasgow West Heartbeats has survived the pandemic and is always ready to welcome new members, whether for cardio rehab or general fitness.
